South Yorkshire Motorcycle Egg Run 2008

The 23rd March 2008 was the date of this year's "South Yorkshire Motorcycle Egg Run"

South Yorkshire Police Motorcycle Section lead by John Martin and the Three Shires HOC Branch organised this bikers charity ride with the help from Simon Athey of the Sheffield Children's Hospital.

For the last 3 years we have had the honour and privilege to have James Toseland supporting us and this year was no different.  It truly is great to see the Children's faces in the hospital when they see James coming around having a chat with every child whilst he hands out Easter eggs to them.  It also put a smile on one or two of the parents faces, with one lucky nurse getting her 'Bra Signed'. ...... and for those who will ask, yes she was wearing it at the time!

With snow on the ground and a some what chill in the air 158 bikes turned up to make this the event it has become.  We even had a beautiful little girl by the age of 2 almost 3 turn up with her dad and the biggest smile on her face (Well when the camera wasn't pointed in her direction).  We got called into the Main Building just before 10am for a briefing and a Thank you by Simon along with a speech by James Toseland thanking everyone for turning up for this great event and announcing he wouldn't miss it for the world come snow or rain this is one worth while event and again thanked us all for turning up.

Once the briefing had finished we all made our way to the bikes and started to line up for the off.  James and John at front followed by Kevin on his Honda Goldwing Trik who was more than happy to carry the children's hospital teddy on his pillion seat.  The off was at 10:20 and a nice slow steady ride into Sheffield past the arena SMC and lady's bridge over to west bar and up to the Children's Hospital with a warm welcome by everyone who turned up to welcome us on our arrival.

Everyone then made there way to James and had there photo taken with James and even an item or 2 signed.  then a Select Number of the Three Shires followed James and Simon around the Hospital to see where last years money had gone and where this years money will go.  The system they are installing will make the Children's stay in hospital allot more comfortable and entertaining, after all you need to have something to keep there minds busy when many are in there for months even years.  In the Future they hope to add there Medical notes and even link up children with the same problems together so no longer will a child feel there alone.

Every Penny raised today will go to this system and as soon as I have a figure I will let you all know last years cheque was for £2000 on the day but a total of over £3100 was handed over.

Thank you all once again from all at the Three Shires and the Children's Hospital for this year and hope to see you all next year.
